Mets Legend Keith Hernandez Opens Up About Heartbreaking Loss

On Wednesday morning, New York Mets legend Keith Hernandez had unfortunate news to share with his social media followers.

Hernandez, 71, revealed that his pet cat of 22 years has passed away. It turns out that he put down Hadji last week. That must have been an incredibly tough moment for the two-time World Series champion.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I must tell you that I had to put Hadji down last week,” Hernandez wrote on X. “It was his time to go. I loved him so much and miss him dearly. He was a great companion for 22 yrs. RIP my little guy.”

If you’re familiar with Hernandez’s social media activity, you’d know that he loved spending time with Hadji. Over the years, he has shared countless photos of his cat on Instagram.

Hadji actually celebrated his 22nd birthday in mid-October.

Fans of Hernandez are sending their condolences at this time.

“So so sorry Keith,” one fan wrote. “Thoughts are with you.”

“Oh no! I’m so sorry Keith. He lived an amazing life,” another fan commented. “You were an amazing dad to him. I had to put my 13 year old down earlier this year and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. You’re in my thoughts.”

“So sorry for your loss Keith! We know he meant the world to you. My thoughts and prayers are with you right now,” a third fan tweeted.

Hopefully, Hernandez’s photos of Hadji will bring him joy even now that he’s gone.

We’re wishing Hernandez all the best as he gets through this difficult time.
