Just In: We Should’ve Dressed Like That!’ – Carlos Alcaraz & Coco Gauff Share Laughs Over Their ‘Lucky’ Sightseeing Adventure to China Open Victory

Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz recently shared a laugh about their ‘lucky’ sightseeing adventure in China, which they enjoyed together before winning the China Open titles. The duo visited the Forbidden City in Beijing, wearing traditional Chinese attire, Hanfu, on September 25.

Alcaraz went on to have a spectacular run at the ATP Tour 500 tournament, where he defeated the World No. 1 and top seed Jannik Sinner 6-7 (6), 6-4, 7-6 (3) in the final to clinch his fourth ATP title of the year.Notably, Gauff also had a great campaign in China after her disappointing US Open campaign where she encountered a Round of 16 exit, losing to compatriot Emma Navarro. After reaching the finals of the China Open on Saturday, Gauff was asked about being just one step away from winning the same title as Alcaraz, during the press conference. She responded to this by saying:

“We [Alcaraz and I] both made the final. We both went to the Forbidden City together. Somebody asked me in the beginning of the week if that would give us luck. So far it’s working. Hopefully I can follow in Carlos’ footsteps.”

Gauff then followed in Alcaraz’s footsteps and claimed the trophy, after which the latter shared a photo featuring him and the American on his Instagram story, initially posted by The Tennis Letter’s X (formerly Twitter) account. The image was a ‘how it started’ vs ‘how it’s going’ collage. On the left side, both were captured wearing Hanfu clothing, while the right side saw them holding the China Open trophies.

The Spaniard used this post to congratulate Gauff on her remarkable win and lightheartedly suggested that they should have wore the Hanfu attire during the presentation ceremony, writing:

“Congrats!! 🥳 We should’ve dressed like that in the ceremony as well….😂🤪”

Gauff reacted to this, adding:

“Haha we should have 🤣 and thank you!”

Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz’s remarkable run at the 2024 China Open

Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the China Open final, defeating Daniil Medvedev (7-5, 6-3) in the semifinals, Karen Khachanov (7-5, 6-2) in the quarterfinals, and Tallon Griekspoor and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the Round of 16 and Round of 32, respectively. He ultimately secured his 16th career ATP Tour title by defeating Jannik Sinner in the final.A few days later, Coco Gauff put on a stunning show at the tournament by bagging her second WTA 1000 title of her career as she got past Czech Republic’s Karolina Muchova convincingly with a scoreline of 6-1, 6-3 in the finals. She had earlier bested the likes of Paula Badosa, Yulia Starodubtsewa, and Naomi Osaka, among other notable names.
