The Minnesota Vikings managed to overcome a key injury in Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals but may have to do the same this week.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell confirmed Monday that cornerback Stephon Gilmore suffered a low-grade hamstring injury that kept him out of most of the second-half of Sunday’s game.
O’Connell said that Gilmore is still being evaluated but is believed to have avoided a long-term injury. However, Gilmore is questionable for this week’s game against Atlanta.
If he can’t play, Fabian Moreau — who filled in on Sunday and was picked on by the Cardinals at times — would likely take Gilmore’s spot again. The Vikings also still have rookie Dwight McGlothern that they could press into duty.
Additionally, the Vikings are getting closer to getting several other injured players back.
O’Connell says the practice windows for kicker Will Reichard and long-snapper Andrew DePaola will be opened this week to “see where those guys are at.” However, it’s still unclear if they’ll be activated before Sunday. If not, John Parker Romo and Jake McQuaide will continue to handle those duties.
Also, tight end Josh Oliver, who has missed the past two games due to an ankle injury, is expected to return to practice and play again on Sunday, per the head coach.
